Phlebotomy Technician Program

A Phlebotomy Technician is a trained healthcare professional who collects blood samples for medical testing, research, and blood donations. Taylor College’s certificate program is designed for students who want to pursue a career as a Phlebotomy Technician. After completing the program, graduates are prepared to take the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Phlebotomy Technician certification exam.

Prepare to Become a Certified Phlebotomy Technician

Students gain both classroom knowledge and hands-on clinical experience during the program. Clinical training takes place at an approved medical facility under the supervision of an instructor. Course topics include basic administrative and clinical responsibilities, anatomy and physiology, communication skills, and important legal and ethical considerations in healthcare. Students also learn about safety procedures, emergency situations, disease prevention, and overall wellness.

The program also provides detailed instruction in infection control practices, including education on bloodborne diseases such as HIV and AIDS, as well as proper safety protocols for handling blood and medical equipment. After becoming certified, graduates may pursue entry level employment in hospitals, medical and diagnostic laboratories, healthcare facilities, physician offices, and outpatient care centers. The program consists of 100 clock hours and is typically completed over six weeks.
