Course Description
IV Clinical Skills Lab and Assessment
Total Course Length: 36 Hours
Delivery Method: 30 hours of Online/Self-Study and 6 hours On-Campus
This course includes 30 hours of online self-study followed by a 6-hour on-campus skills assessment.
The purpose of this course is to provide currently licensed practical nurses, registered/certified medical assistants, phlebotomists, and EMTs with comprehensive knowledge in IV therapy practice, including managing Central Venous (CV) lines. This course provides an overview of vein anatomy and physiology, indications for IV therapy, infection control and complications, central line management and dressing changes, scope of practice and limitations, parenteral therapy, blood components, IV insertion/removal, procedures for venipuncture, and nursing management for patients receiving IV therapy.
This first part of this course is designed to provide the student with 30 hours of continuing education in IV therapy.
The second part of this course covers hands-on skills training and a clinical practice assessment witnessed by a Registered Nurse to evaluate clinical application of knowledge and skills related to IV therapy.
Upon successful completion of this course a certificate of completion will be issued.
Continuing Education courses are excluded from accreditation with the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools, ABHES, and licensing from the Commission for Independent Education, CIE.
Course Schedule
Course dates are TBD. This course includes 30 hours of online self-study followed by a one-day course that will be approximately 6 hours in duration.

Refund Policy
No refunds will be given for non-credit courses. If a course is cancelled by Taylor College, students have an option of enrolling into the next available course or receiving a full refund.
Course Materials/Requirements
Online learning material is included in the tuition cost and access will be received upon enrollment. Internet access required.
IV therapy kits and all supplies are provided and included in the above course fees.

- Copy of current Florida Nursing license or certification/registration documentation as a CMA/RMA/CCMA/CPT/EMT
Certification
Once a student has completed the online portion of the course, they will receive a certificate of completion. Upon completion of the on-campus clinical skills assessment, the student will receive a proficiency statement from a Registered Nurse regarding the student’s ability to perform intravenous therapy via central lines.
