Professional Nursing Program

Healthcare facilities and hospitals are looking for qualified Registered Nurses (RN) as the demand for these positions across the country continues to grow. Registered Nurses have increased responsibilities which require critical thinking and decision-making skills. RNs are responsible for administering medication, performing tests, analyzing results, educating patients on how to manage care after their treatment, and overseeing other staff such as LPNs and Nursing Assistants.

Obtaining your license as a Registered Nurse provides a career offering job stability, flexible schedules, a good job outlook, and rewarding financial benefits as part of the essential workforce. If you are looking for a new career in the growing healthcare field or if you’re a Licensed Practical Nurse looking to move forward in your career and increase your employment opportunities, then the Professional Nursing program at Taylor College may be a good option for you. Taylor College’s Professional Nursing program offers both DAY and EVENING CLASSES!

Your Role as a Registered Nurse

Registered Nurses have increased responsibilities and work under the direction of a Physician, Nurse Practitioner or Physician’s Assistant. RNs are responsible for assessing a patient’s condition, recording the patient medical history and symptoms, and observing the patient’s condition and recording those observations. RNs are also responsible for setting up patient care plans, administering patient medications and treatments, assisting in patient diagnostic tests, and analyzing test results. One of the most important functions of an RN is to consult with doctors and other healthcare professionals to effectively educate patients on how to manage their care at home after their medical treatment. RNs play a crucial role in patient care and family support during times of medical crisis.

Taylor College provides labs that are fully equipped with the tools and equipment that you can expect to be using in your Nursing career. In addition, our students train using specialized simulator manikins that offer a realistic training experience. These manikins are used to simulate a variety of scenarios that healthcare professionals may encounter and provide immediate feedback and evaluation on student performance. They’re a valuable tool for students to practice and perfect their skills in a safe and controlled environment!

  • Clinical Training

At Taylor College, our focus is on your success. Employment is the goal. The 24 month Professional Nursing program includes 495 hours of clinical training. Beginning in your third semester and continuing through the end of your program, you'll spend approximately 12 weeks per semester working onsite in actual medical facilities. During this special training you will have an opportunity to shadow a qualified professional and apply the skills you've learned during your campus labs, class lectures/discussions.

  • Qualified Instructors

Taylor's course instructors, lab instructors, and clinical instructors are Registered Nurses and are required to have at least 3 years of nursing experience. In addition, fulltime instructors teaching Professional Nursing program courses have a minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. Students benefit from the real-world experience from instructors who have worked in the field.

  • Transfer Credit Opportunity for LPNs Entering the Professional Nursing Program

A student who is currently licensed and practicing as a Licensed Practical Nurse whose license is clear of any disciplinary or administrative action will have his/her credentials reviewed. When the licensing credentials have been approved, a nursing skills test will be given. If the skills test is performed successfully without assistance from the examiner, the student course requirements for NUR1030 Fundamental of Nursing I and NUR1035C Fundamentals of Nursing II will be waived. A "Course Waived - CW" grade will appear on the student's transcript. If the student fails the nursing skills test, the student will be required to take the NUR1035C Fundamentals of Nursing II course. Graduates of Taylor College Practical Nursing Program are exempt from the skills test.

  • Extra Lab Availability

The Professional Nursing program offers lab time by appointment that is fully staffed with instructors for students who are interested in, or may need, additional training on specific skills.
